Problem Solving inspired by Toyota Business Practices (TBP)
Service Description
Course Overview: This course provides professionals with a deep understanding of Toyota’s renowned problem-solving methodology: Toyota Business Practices (TBP). Built on the foundations of the Toyota Production System and continuous improvement (Kaizen), TBP offers a structured, practical, and team-oriented approach to identifying root causes, developing countermeasures, and sustaining effective solutions. Participants will learn to apply the 8-step TBP model to real organizational challenges, improving quality, efficiency, and teamwork across operations. Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: · Understand and apply the 8-Step Toyota Business Practices problem-solving process. · Identify and define problems using data-driven analysis. · Perform thorough root cause analysis using tools such as “5 Whys” and “Fishbone Diagrams.” · Develop, test, and implement effective countermeasures aligned with organizational goals. · Engage teams in continuous improvement and foster a culture of problem ownership. · Reflect on outcomes and standardize successful practices to prevent recurrence. Key Topics: · Toyota Way principles and the philosophy of continuous improvement · A3 thinking and visual problem solving · Root cause analysis and data-based decision making · Practical application of TBP through case studies and simulations · Leadership behaviors that support a problem-solving culture Course Format: Interactive workshop combining lectures, hands-on exercises, group discussions, and real-world problem-solving case. Participants apply each TBP step to a case study, guided by an experienced facilitator. Duration: 1 day intensive training (2 x 3.5 hours) plus 30 minute lunch and 2 x 15 minute breaks. Assessment (optional) (60 minutes): Participants complete a practical A3 report demonstrating their ability to apply the TBP process from problem definition through to solution standardization: - Identification of a real workplace problem to solve - Applying steps 1 to 5 of the problems solving methodology - Presentation of the final A3 problem solving solution before a panel of business managers Coaching (optional): (2,5 hours or 5 x 30 minutes) Participants are coached by an experienced facilitator in 30 minute sprints according to the following process: - Particpants prepare step on his/her A3 document - Receives 30 minute coaching from an experienced coach
